First real food!

Stephie enjoyed her first real meal today: butternut squash (the winner in last week's food poll). She especially enjoyed holding the squash in her fist and sucking her thumb at the same time. Butternut squash is Mommy's absolute favorite food. I don't know if any of it actually made it into Stephie's tummy, but she sure enjoyed trying it out! Squash is tasty stuff!

Stephie takes control

We learned something new about Stephie today: she takes after Mommy and Daddy more than we thought in regards to being very stubborn and a bit of a control freak! Stephie wants to put the spoon in her mouth HERSELF and is not terribly interested in our help. This led Mommy to do some research on baby-led feeding and weaning. Interested parties can read more about this here. Any advice on the matter would also be much appreciated!

***News Update***

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you this exciting (???) news: Stephie is getting her first tooth! Liz noticed it yesterday, and sure enough, there is a tiny little razor sharp tooth poking through on the bottom. Mommy is dreading the impending biting while nursing....

This feeding thing sure is messy!

Chalk it up to our being very inexperienced parents, but we are certainly a little bit taken aback at exactly how messy this whole feeding process can be! We are still only doing rice cereal, but Stephie has a nasty habit of shoving her hands in her mouth after each bite and then touching...well, everything! Tomorrow we are going to strip her down to her diaper for dinner time, then head straight to the bath when she's done.

Stephie's first cereal

Stephie had quite the audience today for her very first cereal meal. She thoroughly enjoyed making a total mess and especially liked sticking her hands in her mouth after each bite. Mmmm...rice cereal.
